California PolicyAB 1493 – California Clean Cars LawSigned into law in 2002, Assembly Bill 1493 (Pavley) directed the California Air Resources Board to adopt regulations that require carmakers to reduce global warming emissions from new passenger cars and light trucks beginning in 2009. ARB adopted regulations in September 2004. Under the plan, carmakers must meet increasingly stringent standards that phase in between 2009 and 2016. The law is technically in effect, however, it faces federal and state court challenges by automakers and some California car dealers. Learn more from the California Clean Cars Campaign. |
