AB 32 – California Global Warming Solutions ActPassed in August 2006 and signed into law a month later, the California Global Warming Solutions Act sets a firm, enforceable emission cap that addresses all major sources of global warming pollution in California. It also requires reductions through 2020 — far beyond any other measure in the world — and authorizes and even encourages the California Air Resources Board to identify needed reductions beyond 2020. Downloadable InformationImplementing AB 32AB 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, charged the Air Resources Board (ARB) with establishing a comprehensive program to achieve real, quantifiable, cost-effective reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) – and to do so within a specific timeframe. Under the law, ARB is responsible for monitoring and reducing GHG emissions and has the authority to use both regulatory and market-based approaches that meet certain requirements. The AB 32 goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2020 is an ambitious effort that requires careful planning and a comprehensive strategy. Climate Action TeamThe Climate Action Team, led by the California Environmental Protection Agency, coordinates statewide GHG reduction efforts involving agencies beyond ARB. |
