Western Climate Initiative

In February 2007, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined with the governors of Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington to kick off the Western Climate Initiative to design a regional market-based approach for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Since that time, Montana and Utah, together with the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, have joined the effort. Visit the Western Climate Initiative.

In September 2008, the WCI released its recommendations for a regional cap-and-trade program.
